About the Artist
Arshaad Norwood SKA “The Brother Behind the Bristles” is a multitalented visual artist, muralist, educator, dedicated husband and father from Atlanta, Georgia with over two decades of professional experience in the areas of fine art & graphic design. After becoming a brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc in 2003 through Kappa Zeta Sigma Chapter he chartered Beta Beta Tau Chapter before earning his Bachelors of Art & Design from Lagrange College.
Post college, he excelled as a graduate assistant for Lamar Dodd Art Center and as a studio artist for Signe Grushovenko in the Artist & Residence program before working professionally as a graphic artist for the unprecedented Benjamin Studios in Atlanta, Ga. During President Obama’s inaugural year, he was awarded first place honors at Arts Clayton Gallery for his iconic painting of the First Family, “The Triumph.” Soon after, Arshaad completed his Masters in Secondary Education & started his art educator career with Clayton County Public Schools in Jonesboro, GA serving underprivileged and at-risk youth. He then went on to teach art at Riverdale High School while simultaneously relaunching his art business with the nonprofit organization, Art is King.
In 2017, he collaborated with National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) on launching the NEXTGEN Art Showcase located at Benjamin E. Mays High School where he currently serves as Lead Art Educator in the Fine Arts Department. Currently, he is a 2019 Luminary Award Nominee in Art Education from the premier publication, ArtsATL. In addition, Arshaad was handpicked as a featured artist for the Georgia Juried Artist Exhibition at Abernathy Art Center in Vinings, GA. Last summer, he was selected by Blu Culture Collection to showcase his artwork at the Phi Beta Sigma Conclave in Las Vegas, Nevada.
