Children Services Administrator III

Social Work / Child Protective Services

Professional Firsts

I am a former foster youth, living in a foster home for eight years. My personal experience motivated me to pursue social work after graduating from college however my first application to Los Angeles County Department of Children was denied. I began my Professional career in the local county government working for the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner. I was soon chosen for a Pilot Program for staff to participate in a Death Investigator Trainee Program. This training was fulfilling and resulted in preparing me in many ways for my future career as a social worker to include investigating, writing reports and ultimately ensuring the quality of care for the children and youth in foster care. In January 1993 I transferred to the Los Angeles County Department of Children Services (now known as the Department of Children and Family Services) due to a department Budget/Administrative matter requiring them to downsize. Upon my arrival with two degrees and a desire to promote child safety and well being for the children in foster care, I started on a clerical item. It was my intent and desire to promote to a Children's Social Worker. Shortly, after my arrival the Department posted a bulletin to promote current employees for the Children's Social Worker Trainee position. I was hired among a small group of staff but I was the first former foster youth that was a current staff and promoted to a Children's Social Worker Trainee position. Twenty five years later, I have promoted to various positions and currently hold the position of Children's Services Administrator III diligently working to ensure quality care and the physical, mental and physiological needs of all foster are met.

Perseverance, patience, and strength has supported my commitment to foster youth and their successful transition to become self-sufficient adults.
