Modern American Miss/Director of Strategic Partnerships and Operations/Founder

Industry

Professional Firsts

My name is Renee Namakau Ombaba, and I am the inaugural Modern American Miss, the founder of Black Women in Opera, and the first and only female executive at Hales Government Solutions. As the inaugural Modern American Miss, I have the opportunity to not only showcase my beauty, style, and grace but to most importantly uplift and encourage the intergenerational relationship between women that promote confidence, trust, and encouragement. Most recently, I hosted a women’s empowerment event called Namaya’s Circle that focused on aligning your life with your purpose. At the event, I collected sanitary napkins and tampons for Virginia's Shelter House, Inc. My dream for Namaya’s Circle is to encourage women to share their stories and empower the next generation. I started Black Women in Opera (BWIO) in February 2019 to highlight current and past Black opera divas. Since there was no online community of this kind and many opera accounts did not highlight Black artists, I created BWIO as an independent account on Instagram to celebrate my love for opera and the Black artists that paved the way. My online social community reaches over 3000 thousand non-traditional opera lovers and is instrumental in recharging the love for opera with a new generation. I started as a temporary worker for Hales Government Solutions in September 2017. With hard work and determination, I became the female full-time employee of the company. In 2019, I was promoted to be the first and only female executive at this company. As Director of Strategic Partnerships and Operations, I spearhead human resources initiatives for our clients including overseeing employee wellness and training programs. I also direct all corporate and client events overseeing logistics, budgeting and promotions of small- and large-scale events. In addition to all of these activities, I am a professional opera singer who coordinates her own quarterly recitals.
